An off shoot of my architectural work has been mounted paintings on porcelain tiles. This is a series based on the local landscape as embodied in the following poem by Robert Louis Stevenson which has been an inspiration for the work.
TO S. R. CROCKETT
(On receiving a Dedication)
BLOWS the wind to-day, and the sun and the rain are flying,
Blows the wind on the moors to-day and now,
Where about the graves of the martyrs the whaups are crying,
My heart remembers how!
Gray recumbent tombs of the dead in desert places,
Standing stones on the vacant wine-red moor,
Hills of sheep, and the homes of the silent vanished races,
And winds, austere and pure:
Be it granted me to behold you again in dying,
Hills of home! and to hear again the call;
Hear about the graves of the martyrs the peewees crying,
And hear no more at all.
The work illustrated above are examples. For a full listing of available work email me. Prices start @ £245 for a six tile piece. The tiles are mounted on ply with aluminum edging and are ready to hang. Completed painting sizes vary although all tiles are 150mm.
